Mission Statement

Our Mission is to work with Members of the National Women’s Hockey Team (past, present and future) to assist them in achieving their goals as they relate to being able to compete for our Country.

MANDATE

The Ladies First Hockey Foundation is a “not for profit” foundation sanctioned by the individual and collective members of the National Women’s Hockey Team.  The Foundation was established by a group of individuals that recognized the hardships that these athletes face in striving to compete in their sport on the International Stage.

The Foundation provides financial assistance to the team members and their families at various times throughout the year.  There are two fundraising events that are staged each year.  The summer event (in its seventh year) is the Good as Gold Open.  This three day golf tournament, now being held at Deerhurst Resort, has attracted many celebrities from both the sports and entertainment arenas who give generously of their time to support Team Canada.  To-date, this event has raised over $500,000 which has gone directly to the Team members to help with their league fees, training and transportation.  Our winter event (in its third year) is Sips, Sticks & Stilettos and is also enjoying much success.  The funds raised from this event are earmarked to aid the parents and siblings of the Team members get to and attend the Olympic competition.  In 2006, over 85 family members attended the games in Torino, Italy – aided financially by the Ladies First Hockey Foundation.

In addition to these two events, the Ladies First Hockey Foundation raises necessary funds by other various initiatives including sales of the Official Canadian Olympic Women’s Team Print (Limited Edition – personally signed copies), sales of merchandise, booking speaking engagements for Team members and helping with book sales, etc.

All initiatives of the Ladies First Hockey Foundation are guided by the suggestions and approvals of WHPAC – Women’s High Performance Advisory Committee – which is made up of 5 elected members of the National Team.  Currently, Hayley Wickenheiser is the Team liaison with the Ladies First Foundation.

We are very pleased that we have been able to welcome… retired player Cassie Campbell, BareNaked Ladies member Tyler Stewart and performing icon Michael Burgess… to our Board of Directors.
